224 UEP scholars granted P40k each

Two hundred twenty four scholars of the University of Eastern Pangasinan were granted P 40k on Jan. 18 during the Tertiary Education Subsidy Distribution at the Ramon J. Guico Sr. Sports and Civic Center.

Dr. Evelyn Abalos, UEP president informed that initially the scholars received 20 thousand pesos each with the remaining 20 thousand pesos to be given on February to May at five thousand pesos each every month.

Abalos added that the amount was granted to the UEP students who applied and passed the screening with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the implementing agency of the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES), a core program under Republic Act 10931 known as the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act

UEP is one of the 79 local colleges and universities in the country given Tertiary Education Subsidy.

The TES differs from the free tuition scheme. It supports the cost of tertiary education by providing allowances for books, transportation allowance, books, and school supplies, among others.

Binalonan Mayor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of UEP Ramon Guico III advised the grantees and the other students to aim for success. He said, “Aim for success. If you will be successful in the future, I will also be successful. You will be my best accomplishment.”

Vice Mayor Melicio Patague II said, “Be productive Binalonians. Use education to improve your lives. Don’t forget to thank the people behind the establishment of UEP.”

Councilor Josephine Caburnay advised the students to “be thankful, take advantage of the opportunity, study hard and reach for your dreams.”

Dr. Noel Apolinario Bautista, chairman of the Committee on Education, encouraged the students to finish their courses and use their diploma to better their lives and their families.

Also present during the distribution were Association of Barangay Captain President Bryan Louie Balangue, Villasis Councilor Louie Sison, UEP faculty and staff and parents of the beneficiaries.

It can be recalled that the UEP was established in 2005 through the leadership of Mayor Guico with legal foundations, Ordinance No. 2005-007 and Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Pangasinan Resolution No. 239-2006.
