A two-day training on climate change mitigation and adaptation on November 12-13 was jointly conducted by the Department of Agriculture Regional Office I, Municipal Government Unit of Binalonan, Department of Interior and Local Government at the Binalonan Events Tent.

With the participation of the 24 barangays of Binalonan, the training was attended by municipal government officials, municipal and regional agriculture personnel, selected barangay officials and farmers of Binalonan.

Councilor Jerry J. Aradanas, chairman, Committee on Agriculture, welcomed the participants and other guests. He also mentioned several manifestations, causes and possible effects of climate change.

Dr. Mary Jane Alcedo, Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture Coordinator (AMIA) DA-RFO I, discussed Programs and Projects of DA RFO I, Establishment of Climate Resilient Agriculture, and Agri-Livestock Waste Management through Biogas and Vermicomposting.

Jegie Malicdem, Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) inspector, talked on the Good Agricultural Practices.

            Jhan Roy Romero of the DA RFO I discussed Organic Concoctions for Organic Vegetable Gardening using squash, papaya, carrots, kangkong and other fruits and vegetables.

On the second day, hands on demonstrations on agri-by-product processing (indigenous microorganisms, fermented plant and fruit juices) were conducted.

Lectures on mushroom production and innovative free-range chicken and goat production and management were also held.

Municipal Agriculturist Ricardo Tabuac, together with the personnel of Binalonan agriculture office, spearheaded the training.

Cleofe Jacob Martinez, agricultural technologist, emceed the event.
