Mothers in tandem with their daughters on July 31 manifested their cooking expertise during the 2019 Mother and Daughter Cook Fest held at the Binalonan Rock Garden Tent.

As highlight of the Binalonan Rural Health Unit Nutrition Month Celebration, the event aimed to promote proper nutrition with the theme, “Kumain nang Wasto at Maging Aktibo… Push Natin ‘to!

Using squash as the main ingredient, the contestants were asked to prepare 1 main dish and 1 dessert or snack.
Awarded first place was the mother and daughter tandem from Linmansangan with their Sisig with Calabasa and Pasta with Calabasa; second was the tandem from Pasileng Norte with their Stir Fry Vegetables with Minced Beef and Steamed Calabasa-Malunggay Muffins; third was the contestants from Vacante wth their Bolabola Malunggay with Gata and Bugnay Juice.

Consolation prizes were given to the contestants from Capas, Sta. Catalina, Poblacion and Sta. Maria Norte.

The winners received cash prizes from Councilor Glory Jovelyn Manaois, gift certificates from SM and gifts from Celeen Plus.

Criteria for judging were presentation-20%, palatability/taste-30%, originality-25%, and economical and nutritional value-25%.

The board of judges was composed of Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer Engineer Clarissa Cabacang, DOH Region I Development Management Officer Cathrine Nalupa and Binalonan Municipal Health Officer Dr. Framila Cuaresma dela Cruz.

Committee on Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Chairman, Councilor Josephine Caburnay emphasized the importance of proper nutrition in her message. She also informed that the celebration of nutrition month started in 1974 through a presidential decree.

Meanwhile, Councilor Glory Jovelyn Manaois said, “Ang kalusugan ay kayamanan kaya kalusugan ay pag-ingatan.”
