Students, parents orientation program focuses on Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education

The University of Eastern Pangasinan on August 15 conducted the Student-Parent Orientation Program for Academic Year 2018-2019 at the Ramon J. Guico Sr. Sports and Civic Center, focusing on Republic Act 10931 or Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Acts of 2017.

CHED Regional Office I Representatives Alexis Moira Dolores and Eleazar Evangelista discussed and answered questions about the several provisions of the law.

Dolores emphasized free tuition and miscellaneous fees under the law but there are still minimal fees to pay and urged the students to study hard and finished their courses since the government is spending billions of pesos for the program.

Dr. Evelyn Abalos, UEP’s secretary and Deborah Calugay, UEP’s registrar, joined Dolores and Evangelista in the open forum.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Jose Padillo, vice president for academic affairs, informed that the university will be opening civil engineering and accountancy for its degree offerings next year.

The university’s admission and retention policies, grading system, guidelines on student affairs and service program, safety hygiene and sanitation, student code of discipline, drug education, and campus crime prevention were also discussed during the one-day orientation.

Resource speakers were Jennifer Bernadette Casil, head, Student Affairs; Glenda Tadena, university nurse; Oscar Pulido, NSTP director; Aldrin Tarangco, dean, College of Criminal Justice System Education, and Joana Mae Delos Reyes, faculty, Criminal Justice Education.

UEP, owned and managed by the municipality of Binalonan, now has a total enrolment of 1,195 compared to 572 last year from the nine degree and four associate programs.
