Basketball fanatics from Binalonan on June 12 were treated to a three-cornered basketball tournament dubbed as Battle of the Champions at the Ramon J. Guico Sr. Sports and Civic Center.
As part of the town’s Independence Day celebration, Battle of Champions featured LGU Binalonan versus Isaiah 7:14 Baguio, WCC Aeronautical and Technological College Sky Hawks versus San Felipe Central (SFC), and University of Eastern Pangasinan (UEP) versus Poblacion.
WCC Sky Hawks was first runner- up in the first season of the Northern Luzon Collegiate Athletic Association (NLCAA), while SFC was first runner- up in the 2018 Mayor’s Cup Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament; UEP and Poblacion were champions in the NLCAA and Mayor’s Cup, respectively.
With Vice Mayor Melicio Patague II in command, LGU Binalonan overpowered Isaiah 7:14 Baguio, 81-74. Patague was awarded Most Valuable Player in the game.
Mythical Five were VM Patague, Coach Leo Arnaiz, and Mark Siador of LGU; Joseph Banto and Ali Quijana of Isaiah 7:14 Baguio.
Coached by Leo Arnaiz, WCC Sky Hawks, with a 40 point-lead, proved their might against SFC, 100-60.
Chosen Mythical Five were John Vinluan, John Guico, and Rogin Bertumen of WCC; John Paul Esquejo, and Jeff Esquejo of SFC. Guico received the MVP award.
In the UEP and Poblacion face-off, UEP dominated the game from start to finish, 95-77.
UEP’s Mark Camat was MVP, while the Mythical Five were Dindo Dela Torre, Mark Camat, and Jeremy Barroga of UEP; James Evangelista and JR Etrata of Poblacion.
Meanwhile, in the football match between Binalonan FC and Dagupan FC held at the Binalonan Municipal Hall Grounds, Binalonan footballers proved their might and power when they dumped Dagupan FC, 25-1.
Binalonan FC was coached by Coach Leo Arnaiz and Ignacio Casino.
